Catching Some Rays

Uploaded: February 14, 2010 10:57:07

Description

Butterflies can't fly unless their body temperature is above 86 degrees F. One way to warm themselves is to angle their wings so the sun's rays reflect back toward their body. This male Eastern tailed-blue butterfly is catching some rays to warm himself up.

Canon 100mm lens, ISO 200, f/8, 1/100 second, +2/3 exposure compensation, Missouri, 7/19/08.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Dominick, Kay and David. This image (as all) looses a lot of detail when reduced to 800 pixels wide. #8385389
