This must be a lotus bud coming up from the Mississipi mud...isn't it just totally marvelous how such beauty could rise from the muck into such a wonderful flower?? There's something so poetic in that! #1181223

Thanks, Valarie! Yes, this was taken right along the shore of a vast marsh; pretty hard to forrage any further in without a boat, or you'd go sinking in the muck! When the water's high, this becomes submerged as well but this late in summer it is usually pretty dry. #7948811
