In PSE6, I used the following steps:

1. I first cropped the image.
2. Used "quick slect" tool to
select the butterfly.
3. Did "select inverse" and
changed the background to black
using the paint bucket.
4. Last, I tried using the "dodge"
tool to dullen some of the
bright white areas.
