Pushing Up Through Arid Soil

I always find it fascinating to see how fragile plants can manage to emerge and grow in hard and dry areas. Here in Toronto, Canada where I live, we've had a much below average amount of precipitation so far this year which is why this bit of soil near my home was so dry when I shot this photo recently.
