To make the image reflect the era in which the car was made I simply opened the image in PS, made a adjustment layer (Ctrl J). I used Topaz Adjust and the "Detailed Black and White" option. Used the options within Topaz to fine tune the image before selecting OK to return to PS. I then made a mask and used the brush tool to bring back the color in the flag before I flattened the image. This allows the flag to speak to the "American" classic car while leaving the image back in the day when the car was first hitting roads! (Super-Cool Hacks). I hope that this helps.
