Description

This was taken at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center in Oyster Bay, NY. I used a tripod-mounted D70 with a Nikon 300mm f4 lens, and an SB-800 flash unit set to -2 EV to capture all the detail I could in the feathers.

Thanks folks. This older 300mm actually works BETTER when I have a 1.4x teleconverter on it - I believe it has something to do with bringing the recessed rear element closer to the sensor. The photos are even sharper, and a little more contrasty. That said, this shot without the teleconverter was still pretty good - you can see my shape in the eye!

Milan, thanks - if you consider a creature that drops upon its prey, snaps its neck, and slowly rips its flesh from its body and eats it an "angel," then this certainly is one;) #2158086
