Gothic Newsprint

Description

Playing around in PSE, just with Thresholds. I loved seeing different details (the lead lines, carved stone profiles) take over in this version, compared to the original full-color shot. (West Rose Window, Washington National Cathedral.) Something about this result made me think of old b/w newspaper images. Or perhaps prints made from the old glass-plate negatives...

The intricacy of the designs definitley show up better like this! I really like the effect!

Thanks, Katrina! (You manage to find my entries so quickly; this one just went up 20 minutes ago!) I've taken SO many shots of this window, it is perhaps a little embarrassing. This one was from my latest visit, when I went up to the high ledge near the ceiling. (Much more of a head-on shot, compared to shooting from the floor below!) I wanted to edit this slightly (in color, that is!) to replace the "West Rose Detail" in my gallery) but stumbled onto this effect, exploring filters and settings, and stopped short. #2063067

I'm off work today so I'm doing what I love best...watching all the new uploads and commenting on those that catch my eye!
You sure have taken quite a few of this place, but I really like them!

Wow, Chris, this is fantastic! I love all of your cathedral shots, but adding the effects to this particular shot turned out really well! Congratulations on your finalist (one of many!) and best of luck in the next round! #2799017

Thanks, Margie, for your kind words! I was pretty astonished to receive 4 Finalists this month!!
I always liked this particular manipulation, myself. #2799170
