Have you read or taken Rob Sheppard's blogs/class on b&w conversions on BP? If not, you might want to review that and evaluate this conversion in that context. In his mind its all about contrast in tone and texture.I think you've done a great job on both counts. In particular, the you've really managed to bring the tree root out and separated it from the wall behind. #10790717

Yeah, this really looks nice. I agree with Rita that square was a good move for this. #10792497Susan Williams August 02, 2013
Amazing work on this B&W, Chris. And I like the square crop a lot. #10794145Kalena Randall August 03, 2013
I like this B&W the best, Christopher. The details are wonderful. I'm a big fan of The Nik software. It's good stuff! #10794621Kristin Duff August 03, 2013
this is a very spooky photo...at first glance it looks like skeletal remains against the rock...ok I am shivering! #10795200Chris Budny August 04, 2013
Thank you all very much; I'm glad my instincts weren't off the mark this time around. I ever-so-lightly darkened the "underside" of the overhanging right wall, and entered today. Thanks again!Beth Spencer August 04, 2013
I think you did a good job on the conversion and the Black and White works great on this one. #10796236Chris Budny August 05, 2013
Thank you, Beth. I'm pretty happy with this one, especially as the trek through Wire Pass was the "low point" of the entire trip; just a miserable hike, really. So to find that I have another "keeper" from that ordeal is a nice consolation ;) #10796560Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
