Brenda!

Wow what an amazing shot! Did you go on a whale watching tour to catch this, I got to see a similar sight when I was on deployment, to the arabian gulf. #71368

Jason -

I actually lead photo tours in southeast Alaska, annually, and this was one of the special adventures of a particular trip. It was terrific to see and to capture on film! Thanks for your comments. #254517

Thanks, Jessica - it is truly amazing that they can hurl their full bodies out of the water. I never grow tire of seeing this! #352308

hi Brenda ,congratulation on your pic ,its really gr8..and I know myself how hard it is to photograph wales and dolphins inside a boat!!
I would like to ask u...what lenses did u used (ef 300 f 2.8 is usm)??? #2799208

Brenda Tharp May 30, 2006

I used a 300mm f4 lens, actually. A fixed 300mm, but now I have a 100-400mm zoom that I'd probably use instead, more flexible for when the whales pop up unexpectedly close or far from the boat! #2833623

Brenda. This shot is amazing. It must have been the best experience. We went whale watching at Harvey Bay Australia it was super. However I have never seen a whale coming out of the water like that WOW and to capture it in such way You must feel so proud #3361886

Thanks, Katrina and all, the picture remains one of my favorites for the EXPERIENCE as much as the photo that resulted from it. Being around such creatures in nature is awesome. #3399383
