FROG LEGS

Uploaded: July 07, 2012

Description

---
Yesterday I spent a sweltering hour at our pond's edge and for my "suffering" I was treated to a plethora of small wildlife activity: Dragonflies "flew United," females beat their ovipositors against the rocks, depositing their eggs in the water, butterflies flitted about, frogs croaked, and tadpoles congregated on the floating twigs near the water's surface.
-----
Some of the tadpoles are starting their metamorphosis to frogs. This plump one was occupying a small twig all by himself. And it was NOT until I looked at my photo on the computer screen that I saw his tiny new back legs!
-----
I read this morning that the new frog may be smaller than the tadpole, and it appears that that is TRUE from this photo.
---
The tadpole was under murky water, of course, so I had to add a lot of contrast to bring out his detail. I would guess he is about three inches long.

.....
This small one is almost a frog. His tail will start to be resorbed back into his body; his lungs and new digestive tract have been developing inside.

GREAT SHOTS AND a GREAT WAY TO SPEND SOME TIME. Would gladly have swapped places as I was mowing the lawn running errands and assembling a storage shed. Probably melted off 10 pounds.

Keep enjoying and I want to see those Dragonfly Shots

Terrific capture, Michelle, and you're brave to stay out in this awful heat that long! We're itching to get out to find photos, but it has to be somewhere inside or where we can stay in the air-conditioned car! #10218035

Amazing capture of this 'almost' frog, Michelle! Terrific details and clarity, especially considering his size! I can't believe you have braved the heat and gone shooting outside! We've had 100+ weather for a week and it's all I can do to walk to and from the air-conditioned car and house. But still...your own pond... #10222373
