Mrs. Adams sadly took her own life swallowing photo-developing chemicals, after a bout of severe depression following the death of her beloved father. The sculpture Mr. Adams commissioned is titled "The Mystery of the Hereafter and The Peace of God that Passeth Understanding."
I shot in full sun, and wanted a dark and perhaps mournful feel; hence, heavy vignetting, some light texture work, a near monochrome desaturation (with light green patina re-applied to the sculpture.) #1468638

You've created a really amazing image, Chris - turning a more-or-less blah photo into a piece of fine art. Kudos! #10177328

Thanks, Terry! I knew the time of day was not my friend---hard, mid-day light (not to mention 90 degrees.) So, into the darkroom it went... :) #10177421

Great job. Excellent post production work! Looks like the whole thing is made of stone! #10177427

I like what you did with the original which is not too bad either, Chris!

Well done, Chris. Once a year, I visit Aspet, the summer home of Saint Gaudens and there is a life size copy of this on the grounds. #10177632

Brilliant work Chris! You managed to change the entire complexion of the image to a more Gothic-like feel. Good lession for all tourists on what can be done to change an uninteresting image into a work of art. #10178532
