Intrepid Catbird: Bog Bath
Uploaded: June 08, 2012
----
Yesterday I went to Silver Lake Park in Bristol, Pennsylvania. There is a lake that becomes boggy at its edges, acres of woods through which several trails meander, a viewing deck in the center of the bog, and a Nature Center.
----
My plan was to capture the swamp roses vining their way through the trees along one of the trails. Last year I caught the end of their bloom on June 29. THIS year I was hoping for the full flush (everything is early this year). But alas, they were only beginning to bud, and the few blossoms that were open were far into the swampy area, and obscured at every angle from view. I will try again next week.
-----
On the trail, though, I spotted this little BRAVE catbird-- first tentatively, and then courageously--wading into the boggy lake for a refreshing bath.
-------
The colors were BLAH, except for some ugly green stuff in one corner, so I used NIK Silver Efex 2 for the conversion and an OnOne frame.

Great capture of this catbird taking a bath in the bog, Michelle! Love the tones and textures. My kind of fun (shooting at the bog, that is)! Last year sometime in April, I shot a Red Wing Blackbird doing the exact same thing, but she was rather far away and my crop ended up being too noisy to post. Those swamp roses are gorgeous, however. #10176852Husain Akhtar June 13, 2012
