Falling Tears

Weeping Rock is about a half-mile walk round trip from a parking lot, and I was surprised to find no one else there this early morning. The water that oozes out of the rock is said to take about 1000 years to travel through from the top. Moments after taking this shot I walked to the other end of the alcove to compose another when I heard a huge chunk of rock come crashing to the canyon floor below.

Here is a view of the other end of the photographers platform and the shot I was taking when I heard the crash. #1328316Ron McEwan November 18, 2010
Good for you, when we were there it was the wrong time of day for good lighting, I remember the info for the time it took the water to seep through. Not only was the light wrong when we were there, the number of people wandering around on the platform made it impossible to get a good shot. You nailed both of these my friend. #9048292Tammy M. Good time of day to hike and photograph. We find alot of times people don't get up early on vacation. Thats why we do. LOL. Both images are beautiful, Marty. Great colors and pov. Hope to get there someday. #9048345Jack Ryan November 18, 2010
Good timing...to avoid the falling rock. Also well timed since you were there without the throngs of "visitors" wandering in the area. A pair of well composed images. The lines of color are fascinating and quite interesting. Excellent work, Marty. #9048371Mitch Spence November 18, 2010
My goodness, look at those colors. It's a natural watercolor, and that horizontal line in the rock lends this a feeling of mirror image reflection almost. I love your composition here, Marty, with the strong green rising from the lower corner to meet the pastels of the rock strata. #9048404Monnie Ryan November 18, 2010
Whew, that was too close for comfort! Love the lines and colors here -- beautiful place! #9048433Julianne Bradford November 18, 2010
Wow..must have been unnerving for a minute Marty. What a fabulous place. I simply must go before it all disappears. Great captures both :-) #9048941Val Feldman November 18, 2010
Ah, your Guiding Force served you well that day, Marty. What beautiful and many colored rock striations. I've neither seen nor heard of this fascinating and interesting place before but intend to Google it to learn more! Both captures - beautiful! (Big sigh here!) :) Someday... #9049005Dianna Murphy November 18, 2010
Well I'm so glad you're safe! I'm loving the textures and colors. thoughtful composition and framing too. The light is perfect to show off all the detail but still retain the shadows and highlights. #9049301Carol L. Fowler November 18, 2010
Gorgeous rock- love all those colors and textures. #9049335Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna November 18, 2010
BOTH images are gloriously gorgeous, Marty! :-) k #9049624frank w. degenhardt November 18, 2010
Marty- That is what we would call a hard hat area with all them falling rocks. From both pictures this place seems to have a lot of fasinating things to see. The name and the water make it all so unique and beautiful at the same time judging from the gorgeous colors and textures. The shape of the rock is beautiful to. A fantastic find and some down right exceptional camera work my friend.Ellen Hodges November 19, 2010
Absolutely beautiful, Marty!!! Would submit both of them imho. Thanks God for getting you out of harms way!! Very beautiful color and pov! #9050563Randy D. Dinkins November 22, 2010
