Blast From the Past

The Santa Fe 3751, is a Pioneer 4-8-4 type, and saw regular service from 1927 to 1953. It now belongs to the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society and is a fully restored and working steam locomotive. This past weekend the 3751 returned to the Surf Line for an excursion pulling 10 Amtrak cars and a few dome cars, attracting large crowds to see it in action! Proceeds from this trip will be used for the annual $50,000 cost of maintainig and storing the locomotive.
This image was captured on the return trip from San Diego to Los Angeles. The train was traveling at a high rate of speed, if you look closely you can see the engineer and some of the passengers, in the back cars. I waited by the tracks for over an hour because I was determined to get a close up, front view, of this locomotive as it went by.
