Canon Powershot Cameras

I was looking to try a point and shoot camera just for a "carry in my purse" type of thing so I will have always have it with me. I would like to try one with at least a 50x zoom. Has anyone ever used one of the Canon Powershot camera's? If so which one and how did you like it? I appreciate any input you can give.

Nothing against the Canon Powershot (since I shoot Canon now) but in my humble opinion, most cell phones have a PRO setting which will let you do pretty much anything you want "on the fly." Maybe experiment with your phone before investing in another camera?

Ann, thanks for your response. I would have to seriously upgrade my phone to have one with a decent camera. I have an iphone 6S and I have never liked the camera on it. It's truly pathetic. lol

I have to agree with Ann! I had a few powershots that I was very happy with, until the most recent one abruptly stopped working and the best that Canon would do for me was to offer me a reburbished model at a slight discount. Instead, I upgraded my iPhone 6 to an iPhone 11 Pro. I am thrilled with the camera quality. I went with the Pro because it includes a telephoto lens, but then found that I like using the ultra-wide lens the most. If I had realized this would be the case, I probably would have opted for the cheaper iPhone 11 model, which includes the regular wide-angle and the ultra wide-angle lens.

Way to go Martha! I have a Galaxy Note 10+ with the same three lens feature on it which is ah-maz-ing too. One hint about it though (sorry Danya for changing the subject for a second) ... anyway, hint when using the wide-angle, check your settings for an automated distortion correction like mine has so your trees, buildings, tall objects don't freakishly lean toward the center. Anyway, back to Dayna. If you decide not to upgrade your phone, look at this one -- PowerShot G7 X Mark II. I googled and saw amazing reviews on it.

Thanks for the tip, Ann! I did not find a similar setting on my iPhone, but I did find some other good ultra-wide angle tips, while looking for it.

PowerShot G7 X Mark II does look like an amazing camera. Good find!

I have a Powershot SX50 that I've had for a bunch of years and I'm happy with it. It's my "car camera" so I don't have to lug the big one and lenses and stuff. No problems with mine.

This is what I enjoy about this site...I wasn’t even looking for a point and shoot but I learned something, that I can use immediately, about my phone and camera. Thank all for the tips.

Well I finally decided on the Canon Powershot SX70. I looked at different ones and this model seems to come close to everything I was looking for so I ordered it. I haven't received it yet but when I get it I will try it out and keep you posted. Fingers crossed that I love it!

Received the Canon Powershot SX70 a few days ago and other than a few shots on AUTO mode I haven't done anything with it yet because it has not stopped raining here in southeast Kentucky! Hopefully when the rain stops and the flood subsides I can put that camera to work and post some pics.
