Photography Question

Tracy Suzanne Moore

Black and White Filters from the last issue????

I was curious as to the question of Black and white filters for film. I was of the understanding that filters worked this way. (For B/W) A filter will lighten it's own color and darkern it's compliment. So for a nicely darkened blue sky, use a yellow filter and for a darker sky , use orange, and then still darker, use a Red. And since filters require longer exposure, then open up or cut the ASA.
Filters are a new thing to me, but this is the way I was taught.

Hmmm, a question without a question.

;-)))

You've pretty much got it. The only thing I would say is that if you are metering with your camera you won't need to compensate the exposure. The camera will do it for you.
