Identity proplem I am continually asked to enter my i.d. and password. When I go through the new arrivals and comment on some of them, B.P. asks for me to sign in every little while. Am I doing something wrong. Am I not suppose to comment or put "fave Photographer while they are in the new arrival area. Please advise, because, If I am doing something wrong I want to know and stop doing it. Thanks, Merna Nobile

Hi Merna, If you use the same computer you can click on "remember me" in your internet browser when you log in to BP. BTW - I use Mozilla Firefox and avoid Windoze IE (the virus spreader). I converted to MAC 2 years ago but have been using Firefox for 5 years now (even on my old windows machines). Hope this helps, Carlton

Carlton, I wish it were that simple. I have IE and am often prompted to log back in even though I click "remember me." And I've seen another BP forum topic on this, with similar concerns from IE users.

Firefox is FREE, and you'll like it MUCH better than IE. There is little reason to lock yourself into IE as you can choose which browser is your default and change at any time. Firefox latest for both Mac and Windoze is ver 3.6 and available for instant download @ Firefox is not only a very powerful browser, but has better security features than IE... and has a TON of plug-ins that can be extremely useful (my favorite is Xmarks which synchronizes my bookmarks over 5 computers I use). You can't go wrong by at least trying Firefox. You can always uninstall if you don't find it meets your needs. Also... make sure your "cookies" are enabled no matter what browser you use, or it won't remember anything.

Using Firefox and checking the "remember me" box are good options to consider for many reasons, but if I'm reading Merna's question correctly, she's being "kicked out" periodically while she's in the middle of making comments. It happens to my husband and I at least once a day. Worse, when you log back in, you have to start all over; you're not returned to the page you were working on when you were inexplicably disconnected from the site. For us, at least, switching browsers has had no effect on this problem whatsoever.

I agree with Ken and Frank and have been using Firefox for about 2 years now and am really happy with it. I don't experience what Merna and Monnie stated above, however, if I have an open BP window for far too long without any activity, and try to comment again after this break, BP site asks me to log in again. I guess, that is a useful feature as it counters the possibility of someone else using my computer in my absence.

BP has a 20min time out. I also use Firefox and my security program automatically logs me back in but I don't like having to back up to where I was and starting over..... This is what BP has to say about the 20min time out: Sometimes your session will time-out when you are entering data into a Web page. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the default 20-minute limit. When I am working on anything for a long time, I copy and paste what I wrote, and try to submit the page. If I get the sign in page, I sign in, then hit the browser's Back button a few times until I get back to the page I was on, refresh the page, and paste in what I wrote so I can try to submit a second time. I guess this is just something we have to put up with....

Wow, I'm on BP daily for long periods of time and have never had to log back in. Is it truly BP kicking folks off or some IP's time folks out? Used to happen with a dial up connection all the time. Just curious. Sharon

This happens to me quite often when I am viewing or if I have been viewing for a time and then try to comment. It is aggravating and I do believe there is something that can be done about it; however, it may time to figure out what to do and that is something BP feels that they can not do at this point. BTW I do not have dial up.
