Creative Packaging for Note Cards I want to begin marketing note cards but need to know if you have suggestions for where I can go to find novel/interesting/clever packaging for my product. I have found a place for publishing the cards, just need now the outside packaging. Hope you can help me out. ~ Eileen

Greetings : Try looking over the rectangular candy / cookie tins available at local Target stores, Walgreens, or in California, Longs or Rite Aid Pharmacy stores. Wrap the cards in a shmaltzy heavy duty tissue and voi-la eh. Whaddya think? Take it light. Mark

What I am searching for is a clear plastic sleeve - like a clear ziploc bag - that would hold between 6-12 cards. Would love to find it in color but that's probably fishing a bit. Thing about the plastic bags...they ship so much easier, and they keep the cards clean for longer. I sure appreciate your help and will look at your suggestions. Thanks, Eileen

Carolyn, I love these two websites. A sincere and genuine thank you for sharing this information. I have another question for you...because I am new at this business of selling photos. Do you put a backing on your photos when you mat them? Backings make me nervous. LOL I prefer to simply sell the photo but I may have to look at making myself skilled in all ways. ~ Eileen ~ Eileen

Yes, I put a backing on my photos when I mat them. Then I put them in the clear bags that you can get at Precut Mats. That makes a nice and professional looking package. I don't know how you're selling your cards and/or prints, but you might check into local art and photography clubs to see what kinds of opportunities they provide for getting your work "out there". I belong to a couple of groups that provide various venues for displaying and marketing my work. Good luck with your endeavors.

Thanks again, Carolyn. I've just started a little shop on etsy.com. It will take a while to get more items there to sell. Thought I'd venture into selling some of my actual photos, but am a little nervous to do that. I guess I am not sure I'm quite good enough yet. You can get clear boxes for note cards or greeting cards at Red River Paper. As far as shipping prints, you can ship matted prints flat between pieces of cardboard which you can buy at places like Walmart or, if you don't mat them, you can ship them in mailing tubes. Hope this helps.

Either clearbags.com or framedestination.com are good to deal with. As far as uncertainty about selling your other work, I'm in the same situation as you, but have decided that if I don't put it out there for sale, I'll never really know. Go for it. Jeff

Eileen, I also use the bags from clearbags.com. I have never had a problem with quality or service. I live in a beach resort area and I tie the package with a colorful ribbon and thread it through a scallop shell.

Eileen, you'll get more confidence as you start selling some of your work. I think eveyone doubts their photographic ability at some point. I know I still do sometimes.

I've started a little store on etsy.com. I'm even getting bolder and offering photos as I do them. Not selling a lot yet, but that will come. I am at least honing my store so that then I can push it into marketing arenas. You can see my store at www.spruceconnect.etsy.com. Let me know what you think. Maybe you can make suggestions or give me ideas. I've also started a deluxe betterphoto site but haven't upgraded to where I can sell there yet. I don't know if that's the best place to sell. The ideas and helps everyone has given me here have worked out wonderfully. I am also discovering I can purchase some supplies through other little stores on the etsy site. Etsy is a site where most everything is handmade. It's quite fascinating.

I just found out about clearbags.com and the great thing is one of their two national warehouses is just about 20 mins from me! They have all kinds of packaging products available, including different size boxes with either a clear plastic lid or plastic sleeve that slides on just like regular retail notecards have. You can get the boxes in colors and even get the stretchy ribbon in colors to go around the box diagonally or in a convential gift-wrap style. I picked up my first order and I love the quality and wide variety of choices they offer. ~S~
