Focusing light on Nikon D200 Hi Friends, I just bought a Nikon D-200. Problem: Does any one know how to turn off the focusing help lamp that is on the front of the camera? The thing goes on every time I touch the trigger mechanism. The only time it does not go on is if I am in bright sunlight. I have scoured through the instruction manual and nada. It did not do that yesterday as I was setting the controls to what I want. Then suddenly today...YIKES. Can someone help with this please? Thanks ahead of time, "ps"

Custom setting menu a9 AF (auto Focus) assist allows deactivatation of AF assist light.

Thank you Alan. I will give it a go. Is there a way to set the assist light so it works only when the pop up flash is up. I seldom use the pop up prefering to use my SB-600. Are the same settings used for the 600? Thank you again, "ps"

Paula, I'm not sure I understand why you would want the focus lamp to not light. If you are trying to autofocus in relatively dark conditions, the camera must have enough light to properly focus. If you are using manual focus, the lamp does not light. John

John, The light comes on all of the time even without the pop up popping up. Just tring to save battery power. Thanks, "ps"

Paul, the auto-focus assist lamp has nothing to do with flash function. It is strictly to allow for auto focusing in dim light situations. The lamp stays on only long enough for the lens to acquire focus. Again, in adequate light, the lamp doesn't come on. Without it, under dim lighting, you won't be able to autofocus. John
