DARK/GRAINY COLOR NEGATIVES

I JUST STARTED USING A AUTO SEARS 1:2.0 50MM LENS WITH MY RICOH KR-30SP CAMERA. I'M NOT SURE IF I'M NOT SETTING THE APPERTURE AND SHUTTER SPEED CORRECTLY OR MAYBE IT IS THE LIGHTING, BUT ALL OF MY 400sp COLOR FILM NEG. IS COMING OUT DARK AND GRAINY.I AM USING 1HR LAB TO DEVELOPE THEN I SCAN W/COMPUTER. VERY FEW, LIKE 1 OUT OF THE WHOLE ROLL IS USABLE.

Does your camera have a built in light meter? You might need to have a camera repair store take a look at it. Also have them look at the lens. The diaphram might be damaged. Without knowing what conditions your shooting in I can't give you much advice on what settings to use. I do know that the grainyness comes from when a photo lab tries to correct your underexposed pictures.
