Shutter lag

Can anyone tell me if the Canon PowerShot SD770 IS experiences shutter lag? A hesitation once you press the shutter release button to the actual capture.

My daughter-in-law's SD230 and my son's SD500 both do. There's every reason to believe the SD&&) still has the problem.

I'm not sure whether the 770 has a view finder and live LCD - but if there's no viewfinder, fuzzines can also be associated with the fact that as we get older, we justr can't hold a camera as steady as we once did. Without a viewfinder, there's every reason to believe the camera is shaking as you shoot.

Also, while these cameras are great for carrying in pocket or purse, their size is the major drawback to clean, sharp pictures every time. The fact is it just might be easier to hold a slightly larger camera more firmly.

As far as shutter lag goes and the frustration the it creates, what is/are a compact camera(s) that doesn't have this hinderance?

What are the causes of shutter lag? Does the type of battery give any indication to shutter lag?

Thanks, Rachel

The cause is the time it takes to transfer the data from the camera's computer to the memory card..

For certain, there's no shutter lag with my Canon 30D and any DSLR that can fire a number of pictures one after the other, sometimes to the limit of the memory card.

Manufacturers have been working on this problem in smaller Point and Shoots. I'm not sure which models have the problem licked. You might try calling Canon Tech Support. My experience is that they will answer questions honestly, that is, I wouldn't expect they'd tell you your camera doesn't have the problem if it actually does.

One other thing you might try - get an improved memory card. I use SanDisk Ultra II and Exteme III - they accept data transfer faster than the basic card. I've also been told to only use "premium" cards, not cheapies. SanDisk and Lexar to name two . . .

I have three DSLR cameras. But my question about shutter lag was directed towards compact cameras. I am looking at purchasing a point and shoot compact camera for someone else.
