Natural Light

Should I use a flash or not when I shoot photos in natural light? Should the light always come from a west window or what?? Does it depend on the time of day with what window you should use? I want a nice portrait, soft. Thank You........

if you have enough natural light, why use flash. Why add butter if something already taste buttery. You can't really say light should always do anything or should always come from a certain direction.
You could get good light from a window if it happens to be reflecting off the house next door. You can use flash with natural light if the situation calls for it, if it dosen't look right to you with just natural light.
Lighting is using what you have available to you, or knowing how to add some where you need to get what you want.
