which flash to use with canon rebel G

I am looking at buying a flash to use with my canon rebel G and am wondering if the Speedlite 420EZ will work and how it performs on this camera.
Can anyone help me with this?

The 420EZ was in production just 2-3 years when it was replaced with the 430EZ. It has good power and is very flexible, allowing both full auto TTL/A-TTL flash exposure and manual power settings, auto or manual zoom, tilt-swivel head, 2nd curtain sync, and strobiscopic effect. The 430EZ that replaced it added a couple more advanced features, such as flash exposure compensation, and an external power input. The AF assist light I believe covers only the center focus sensor.

The 420EZ is a pretty good speedlight and a good match for the Rebel G, but there is a tradeoff of some features v. the current 430EX model. The older EZ model cannot enable some of the Rebel G's more advanced flash features where the EX can: such as FP high speed flash sync (the EZ will sync with the Rebel G only at shutter speeds 1/90 and longer), and flash exposure lock (FEL). The AF assist light of the current model 430EX will also cover all 3 of the Rebel G's focus sensors. The EX model also uses E-TTL metering (pre-flash measured by the evaluative meter before the shutter opens), which makes it fully compatible with Canon's digital SLRs (should you ever add one). When used with digitals the EZ must be used in full manual mode with the user setting flash power and lens aperture based on the guidenumber calculation. On the other hand, the current model 430EX can only be used in full auto E-TTL only. It is not as flexible as the older 420/430EZ as it does not have controls for setting 2nd curtain sync, manual output or strobiscopic function.

oops, made an error in the answer above. The current EX model is 420EX, NOT 430EX. The older EZ models were 420EZ and 430EZ.
