Purchase of telephoto lens for manual camera

I have a Vivitar 4000s manual camera and want to buy a telephoto lens (70-300 or so). I have been searching ebay and other websites but a little confused. I found a lens that meets my needs but not sure if it will fit my camera. It says it is a Vivitar lens but fits a Canon camera. Will it also fit my camera?

  Hello Rob,
you can buy any lense that works with your camera but it has to have a Vivitar mount. The Vivitar lens with a Canon mount you mentioned above will not fit your camera. You dont have to stick with a Vivitar lense however, you can use which ever brand you prefer but make sure the mount is Vivitar.

Most companies that make lenses will have mounts for nearly every camera - if you buy from a camera shop they hopefully will ask you what you need but if you are doing it with e-bay you will have to make sure you ask the seller what it is.

good luck.

Vivitar (along with Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Promaster, Phoenix, Cosina, Samyang,...) make their lenses is different mounts to fit Canon, Nikon, Minolta, and Pentax cameras. A Vivitar lens in the Canon mount can only be used on a Canon camera.

The Vivitar cameras use the Pentax K-mount. You can use Pentax lenses or any other maker's lens with the Pentax, or K-, mount.
