Fish eye lens Auto Focus

My son wants to buy a Fish eye lens and we found a .25 magnification lens that we'd have to use two rings to go down from 49 mm to 30 mm (for a Sony TRV 27), I am concerned that his view will have a black ring or Vignette? all of the time because of the drastic size differances. Also will the .25 mag distortion be great? He is excited about being able to see 180 degrees but.... what will happen?what's your opinion?

I am leaning toward buying a .42 fish eye lens for him without any rings needed, one made for a 30 mm lens, I suspect that the .42 will give some fish eye but not as much or drastic and little to no vignette or black ring around the picture, and still be very functional when not zooming in with no barrel effect. Can you advise if I am on the right track?

As far as my 58 mm (Sony VX 2100)video camera I am not interested in any fish eye per se but rather a good wide angle view, can you advise what magnification will do for me? I suspect that I need a .42 to .5 for my purpose, again am I on the right track or not, I am thginking that .5 has no barrel effect at all and that .42 with only have it at wide aperture when zooming in?

I do know that different manifacturers have different standards so I am asking generally, the .42 standard has to have some kind of standard... what was your experience?

Thanks for your time
