Travel - Capture an image that depicts “Travel”. It could be a unique image at the airport, in a taxi, or of your bags, it’s up to you.

Jeff had reminded me of these origami birds which adorn the walls and ceilings along the way to the A gates at DIA. On my way home I tried to capture a glimpse of them -- not easy to do considering that to get close you have to be on a moving walkway.

Anyway here is the story of these 10,000 cranes:

"Shadow Happy" by Brianna Martray softly enhances a pathway to Concourse A with the addition of 10,000 tiny origami birds folded from pages of a novel written by the artist, appear ready for individual flight. The birds are gently intertwined with elegant glass circles that glisten and shine as the sun rises and sets over the bridge. Both the birds and glass circles have a story to tell.

Artist Statement:
SELF: (Folded paper cranes) Once upon a time, I wrote a novel. I took me eight years and upon completion a New York City Literary Agent asked for a copy. I reread it again, decided it wasn’t good enough and never sent it. In 2006, I started folding the stacks of manuscript pages lying around my house into origami cranes. Fast forward to the summer of 2010 when both my computer and my back up hard drive are stolen and the only finished copy of my novel lives in 10,000 folder paper cranes, the shadow of thousands of hours of work, the history of my creative journey, remnants of a former self.

It's in the middle of the day, I'm NOT tired and still I got double images. Sorry, guys! So...since I find myself back here apologizing, I am showing you two more, one that shows how they are attached and the other shows you the words of the artist's lost novel.

Hey, I'm really glad you got to see these. I have had the opportunity to see these a couple of times, once very early in the morning as the sun was coming up and the shadows were really long and moving quickly. Pretty fascinating.

Thanks Jeff and Teresa. I wished I had had a longer lens to get them up close. I could have gotten closer but on a moving walkway I didn't stand a chance of getting a focused shot.

Teresa - the blue one has a blue filter on it because the birds themselves are just on white paper and the time of day was not making them stand out. I love the story of the stolen manuscript and how the whole story is in all of these origami birds. Kind of sad, though.
