The Meadow's Edge

The Meadow's Edge

----
Normally, the Meadow at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve is in full and glorious bloom mid-August or even LATE August. But a couple of weeks ago, I saw that the color was already starting. So I ventured there yesterday.
---
From a distance, I thought I was going to be in for a treat. But when I approached closer, I saw that the Rose Mallows were heavily infested with Japanese Beetles, and there were virtually NO LARGE BUTTERFLIES to be seen. The Bee Balms were pretty much done, but there were still plenty of bees--only saw one hummingbird moth, though. The pond had become overgrown and the lotuses were DONE...with just three seed pods to be seen.
Sigh.

  Yuck!
Yuck!

The majority of showy flowers in the meadow had suffered destruction like this:

What a shame when beetles infest pretty flowers like this, Michelle! Still, to find a lovely field of flowers must be nice to come across - just a shame to what has happened to them.

Beautiful field of color! The flowers around here seem unusually large with vivid colors, but they're not lasting as long this season for some reason.
