This was taken in Temple Bar, Dublin, through the glass of our hotel window. Temple Bar is quite the party place, and my guess is this woman was getting ready to go out with her friends (whom were sitting on this patio).

Due to the angle this photo was taken, I am having trouble figuring out which lines should be straight. I chose the vertical line on the left of the patio structure.

This is a very nicely composed and clear candid, Elaine. I like it. As far as the lines are concerned, I would suggest correcting the horizontal perspective.

This would maintain your vertical line (a good choice on your part), and level the top line above her head. The balcony would stay as it is, and should be, due to the angle you shot this.

Having a strong vertical and a strong horizontal line that results, would take away the visual tension that multiply angles create, while still leaving the balcony line to satisfy the perspective and angle.

On shots of this kind, I tend to straighten the most central vertical available. If I want to deal with horizontals, or still tilting verticals towards the edges, I then use the distort tool in Photoshop.

I will defer to Dale and Stephen on the perspective straightening issues as I have a terrible time with this and go through lots of gyrations on my shots that have these issues and still have trouble getting them to look right.

It is a nice candid and Jeff is right about the cigarette.

I'll leave the straightening issue to Dale and Stephen as well. I have trouble getting images straight that have a clear horizon line.

She does look very "excited"

I actually like the angle this was shot at. It give the feeling of looking into someone's world from the outside. :)

You guys are funny about the cigarette. I thought she had a lot of character...

Anyways, I am a little confused about fixing the distortion. Dale, I was able to use the distortion tool to make the line above her head level, but it didn't look right because the balcony still sloped down to the left. Don't we want these two lines to be parallel? I think I am missing something...
