Photo Project?

We made a trip to Missouri Botanical Garden a couple of days ago. Nice visit, nice day, but we're still on the front end of spring. I got to thinking about how much things will be changing through spring into summer and then autumn. Which got me thinking about doing a series of shots from (approximately) the same spot, over the course of the year. Hoping I can make it work, even though we have a bit of a drive to get there. Weekly is probably too often, monthly may be to infrequent. Maybe play it by ear, or not try for a fixed time frame? Has anybody else done something similar? And ideas / suggestions?

Here's the two shots I hope to use as a basis, resized to fit here...

Yes I've done that and I think your frequency - even once a month - would be great. Ideal to use a tripod for consistency, but okay hand held too... just keep notes about exact positioning. And maybe shoot at the same time of day each visit.

And maybe choose 2 or 3 compositions (like you've done above) to replicate... so you have choices when the timespan is up.

I have also done it just throughout one day to exclusively focus on light changes throughout one day.

Super fun! Can't wait to see your favorite results.

Thanks Jim!! I don't think they allow tripods at the Garden, but I'm pretty sure I can find the "exact" spot. I also logged what my zoom lenses were set to for each shot (one is wide angle, one is normal). I'm going to plan to do it!

Cut flowers can be very interesting -- this is the bottom of a calalily flower. I laid it on the back of a leaf of the lily.
