Matchstick zoom!

Uploaded: January 25, 2010

Description

This effect was achieved entirely in-camera.
I arranged the matchsticks as they appear in this photo.
Then I focused on the four innermost matches.
I set the exposure to be 1.3 seconds(at f/11 and ISO 100) and zoomed out as the shutter was open.

Optical Illusions!
+ If you view large, and scroll up and down, it appears as if the matches are bending
+ If you stare at the center for long enough, it appears as if the center is expanding (thanks for this tip, Dominick)

1/6 - CA

Exif: F Number: 11, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 13/10 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 120.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 7D

thanks dominick and cathy!

Question for anyone else - is this better suited entered in EoD, D&M, or Catch All? I picked D&M, but still can't figure out if that's right... #8328509

SUPERB!!!!! Great work, Ryan!!

Entry category a toss up...D&M seems right, but EOD would work, too. Looks like a winner, no matter where it sits!!! Great work!

Freezing cold weather in Southwest Louisiana. No sun for days at a time. What to do? Ask and you shall receive. Thanks for the inspiration - love the image. #9231116
