Table by the Window

Uploaded: September 25, 2009

Description

From last year and now I'm glad I took the photo. This was our favorite cafe in the area, called The Townhouse. Among many other things, they served "Billie's Big-A** Burgers." You could even buy the shirt! They were the BEST burgers in the world, I'm pretty sure!

Well, things change and not always for the best... mom and pop cafes like this are disappearing all too quickly everywhere, I think. We have some left around our area but the food -- ? Not the same. And we miss this window table, too!

I'm glad you took it, too, Nadya! I still love and miss many of our favorite places too. As kids we always hung out at Denny's and Sambo's later at night for coffee in California. And in BERKELEY! The best little and big places to eat. All gone now! EEN THE DARNED BOWLING ALLEY!! TORN DOWN!

You did a terrific job in PS with this one. I love that treatment.

Beautiful effects in this artistic image, and I can relate to the loss of favorite places...how wonderful that photography affords us the opportunity to relive the memories, and to reveal those special moments to those we choose to share them with. Fab work, Nadya! #7981815

Me too, Nadya!!! Love this capture! Beautiful lighting and cool effects! No impact in my neighborhood but devastation all around...so sad! Thanks for asking! #7982170

It's not even 8:30AM in the morning here and I have a yen for a GOOD hamburger... :) I sure know what you mean - so many Mom and Pop restaurants are out of business, not being able to compete with the "slick and glossy", (but lack of charm and character) chains. I miss my morning coffee at our used to be local friendly coffeehouse - Starbuck's just doesn't cut it for me!! Wonderful shot, Nadya and a good keepsake for you to remember "those days". #7982553

Great mood shot Nadya. I look at my little home town. If it wasn't for the photos taken 40 or 50 years ago. You would not know it was the same town. Actually it is not the same town. Some people call it progress, I call it a lose. #7982891

Wonderful shot with great enhancing effects, terrific light and cozy place to eat, Nadya!! You are so right!! These places are closing and the process has been accelerated by the poor economy. #7982919

Thanks everybody, for your great comments! I had to "sneak" this shot -- they didn't want me taking photographs. Why, is anybody's guess -- ! Anyway, this is not from 40 years ago or even 5. Closed not that long ago and I still tend to think it's there every time we go to town! Until I see the place of course... boarded up and empty now. As with all too many businesses around these parts and yes, the dismal economy is definitely part of it. #7983330

It is sad when favorite places go under, but at least you have this marvelous image...I bet the owners would love it even if you did sneak it :-) #7990752
