View into the Bedroom
Uploaded: August 24, 2009
Yesterday I posted a view of the front room in a miniature casita (little house) I made for a contest awhile back. This is the other side of the same room, looking toward the bedroom.
Look closely and you'll see a kitty looking out the window!
The family photos on the dresser (Mom, Dad, me as a baby) are about 1/2" in size. The serapi's on the window came from a little sash, as did the blanket on the bed.
The bigger photos on the walls are mine as well and I also made the books. The doll on the shelf is actually from Mexico (the other one is not). I made the wall hanging from some fabric.
Like yesterday's, this illustrates the "Creative Power of Memories" so I'm putting it in Monthly Theme. It is not a model of our real house in Baja but does have many of the elements. In response to someone's comment yesterday, yes: photographing all this tiny stuff IS more difficult than actually making it!!! lol
A great week to all!

Closer view of dresser. The perfume bottle is from beads. One of those vintage postcards is the Golden Gate bridge - not sure about the other one. #1172056A P August 24, 2009

This is such an interesting project, Nadya -- it must have been time-consuming to say the least to make all these miniature versions of everything. And it sure took lots of creativity! #7883955Melissa G. Meiselman August 24, 2009
Amazing miniature with so much symbolic stuff, created with such care for detail...absolutely amazing!! I love both the miniature and photograph!! I can see how this would be very difficult to photograph, as well!! Great job, Nadya!!! #7884003Tammy M. Anderson August 24, 2009
Wonderful colours and details, Nadya. This is amazing. #7884015Karen Slagle August 24, 2009
You have oodles of talent, Nadya. I love the low adobe wall and saltillo floor. How are your eyes holding up? #7884104Nadya Johnson August 24, 2009
Thanks so much Ann, Michelle, Dave, Monnie, Melissa, Tammy and Karen! Actually, the computer is harder on the eyes (believe it or not). I think because I tend to stare at the monitor whereas with miniatures, I look away a lot. I really appreciate your comments!!! #7884110Shelly A. Van Camp August 24, 2009
Super capture, Nadine! #7884142Robert R. Goodman August 24, 2009
Hi Nadya,beautiful capture my friend.Looks like a wonderful sonoran room.What a amzing talent you have,Nadya.Look just like a 1880's adobe home!!!!!! #7884160Nadya Johnson August 24, 2009
Thank you Shelly and Bobby! Fact is, many of the 1990's-era homes in Baja do resemble old adobe: but they're really stucco, either with concrete blocks and chicken wire for support, or straw bales. There is also a newer method using Tri-D panels. They are now using straw bale in the States as well, but an updated method. This an excellent way to cool the house in hot desert climates without the use of A/C, as the insulation value's very high. It's also eco-friendly. The only problem is, the walls have to be very thick so the rooms are often very small. Our house was stucco over concrete blocks and rebar. Beautiful but not so great an insulator! #7884252
