Oh - I LOVE hermit crabs! I had one as a teen that came out and crawled all over the place! Then, my friend bought me one last year... he died though :( and was never very friendly. Anyway, fun shot! Probably not too easy through the glass! #1114227

Angela, aquarium shots are tough. Enough light to see by but not enough for shutter speed and DOF and most won't let you bring a tripod. Not only that but you have to shoot through dirty glass. This is actually pretty good for the conditions, but the only way to get a contest type photo is with a good flash moved off camera with an extension to avoid reflection. Then get a f stop high enough for good DOF. In this shot you got the essential with the face nice and sharp and even the color is good. No noise so I would say you shot at a reasonable ISO setting. Raising that further is of course your only other option to get more light. #7409528

You have captured some good details on this, especially considering you were shooting through glass. To me, it seems the right side is a bit bright and washed out. Ok, I'm so not good at this part, but maybe increase the contrast and saturation while lowering the brightness a touch? Anyway, think you did a great job getting his antennas and eyes! #7410485

Nice capture Angela. Hard to do under those conditions.

But it can be easily improved upon if you're willing to do a couple adjustments. I see you have PSE so this should work nicely for you.

Duplicate the image and adjust the levels. On the histogram move the outside sliders toward the center until they meet the main body of the data graph.

Then apply the infamous high pass filter using an overlay blend. This should make the image pop for you and remove the flatness of the exposure.

this is a funny little guy. we had a couple growing up and one got out of his cage- my mom ended up finding him in my dad's shoe (glad she found him there and not my dad) :-)

very cool shot, especially through the glass. I know how tricky that can be. not sure what you can do to improve it, but have you played with some filters on this guy? I think it might be worth doing. #7419917
