Actually salt crystals. This sunset was photographed in Badwater, Death Valley - CA at 228 feet below sea level. It was 91 degrees at 7:00 pm (16-35mmL @ 22mm, ISO 100, f/ 20, 6.0 sec., ND Grad 3 stop hard)
