Description

Loch Achanalt, Strathbane, Scotland. I have struggled to find a satisfactory composition for this beautiful tree near the railway line at Loch Achanalt. I doubt a close approach is possible at any other time of year without but here the ground had frozen solid permitting access to an ideal spot where all feels balanced. The beautiful caramel light reflected into the deepest shadows providing me with a wonderful contrast between sunlit frost and blue ice.

Pentax 67II, 90-180 zoom, polarizer half strength, f/22 at 1/4 sec, Velvia.

Outstanding, gorgeous photo, Ian. Beautiful from foreground to backgroud. It's such a thrill when you finally get that shot you always wanted. I love the hint of light on the back hills, and the way you use all of the available lines to bring me through the beauty. Great reflection for the main subject, too. #1081928
