Description

For Photogroup 101 Roads theme

Ayer's Rock (called Uluru by the aboriginal people who hold it sacred) is a huge monolith in the Australian desert. It is considered one of the natural wonders of the world. Though remote, tourists flock to visit it, especially at sunset as it changes color. Tour operators complained of the long drive around the rock to view the other side; so a tunnel was bored through this ancient rock. It opened in late 2006, but has seen little use because of the steep toll exacted to defray the expense.

Thank you, Joy, Colette, and Deb! Of course, it is obvious that the tunnel is fictitious. But everything else about this is real. Ayer's Rock is awesome and does change color dramatically as the sun sets. #6894137
