Screaming On The Bayou
Uploaded: October 30, 2008
I could not think of a more fitting photo to end the month with Halloween being tomorrow an I have a big Church Shoot and won't be able to post for days. This section of the bayou/swamp is very interesting. Just to the Right Middle ways you see a very Dark Opening/small Arbor. Remember the screams I wrote about in one of my postings? Well, From deep in that arbor came those terrible screams. Never in my life have I heard a poor critter scream like that. Then the big splash came and all was quiet. I knew at that moment a large gator had taken a prey under to drown it. That is how they will do if they cannot swallow it in one bite. It may have had a deer. My blood is running cold just writing about it. What a feeling I had that day. That was my last shot for many days on the bayou. Bill

Thats scary!Super moody image of this I guess now the most famous Bayou,Bill!!:-) #6684331Bill Knaps October 30, 2008
Thank you Tiia, Ron, Jessica and Renata. I appreciate you very much. Ron I sometimes say the Bayous are my passion in Shooting, but Any trees with the hanging moss. Live Oaks are the most beautiful with the hanging Spanish Moss and the Sypress on the bayous are a strong second. Bill #6684348Kerry Hill October 30, 2008

I remember that story well Bill... not one I want to witness... as for the photo... LOVE this one... beautiful clarity, colours, lighting and reflections. My new favourite of the bayou. Sherran #6685151Summer A. Kozisek October 30, 2008
I absolutely love your bayou images Bill, and the colors in this one are gorgeous. Eerie story as well, don't think I'd like hearing that while out enjoying the day. You'd be surprised, but rabbits can do some serious screaming as I found out when a hawk took one out in my backyard. I can only imagine a larger critter like a deer, no thanks! #6685298Bill Knaps October 30, 2008
Thank you Allen, Barbara, Sherran and Summer for your nice comments. I appreciate of you. Bill #6685358Nancy (Peaches) Harker October 30, 2008

Spectacular clarity and contrast of colors, Bill. That must have been aweful for you to hear that...it makes me sad. #6685532Bill Knaps October 30, 2008
Thank you Peaches, Sam and Robyn. Appreciate you very much. Just think of those Hawks. I know they must eat, but they are keeping their eyes on subdivisions looking for peoples pets. Easy prey for them. My grand daughter had her pet chicken in a cage in the back yard and the hawk pulled at the door until it opened. Smart critters they are. My son heard the Chicken screaming and rand out with a broom and got the hawk off the chicken. The hawk grabbed on the the broom and my son had to shake and shake before he would let go and fly away. The chicken survived. Bill #6685576Susan Weisensel October 30, 2008
Really wonderful Bill, Love the color and reflection. #6685598Bill Knaps October 30, 2008
Thank you Susan and Sabrina. Yes they are silent monsters. It is the prey that scream. If you surprise one he will open wide and hiss just like a cotton mouth snake. I have had both hiss at me and almost get me. I had posted a newspaper clipping about a black lab dog that tried to swim across this bayou and a gator snuck up and snatched him. Took him right under. I posted it because someone from south Louisiana wrote questioning me on our gators danger. They said they went swimming all the time down in south Louisiana and never feared gators. Tell that young boy who lost his arm to a gator this summer swimming in a pond down south. Bill #6685774Michael Umbreit October 30, 2008

Chilling description from a place of much mystery. #6685994Bill Knaps October 30, 2008
Yes it is Kaye. No matter what beauty a coastline, Ocean, Lake, Bayou, river or creek hold danger can always lurk below that water. Never forget this. Some may say it is silly, but tell those who were diving the reef and were bit by a salt water snake. Almost instant death. Bill #6686076Linda Proctor October 30, 2008

My husband and I were out admiring our beautiful fall foliage and I told him about your gallery and how beautiful your images are. This image fits the feeling you had with its deep mysterious black water. Your idea of the photo book and stories is something that needs to be pursued! #6743533Bill Knaps November 12, 2008
Thank you Suzanne. I feel honored. Hope your husband likes my gallery. You mentioned Fall Foliage so I went look through your Gallery to see where you live. (What State) I think you do live on a Ranch with lots of Horses and Cows. I know it is cold where you live because I saw you photos with snow. I live in Northeast Louisiana. Bill #6743576Candice L.
