Actually, I would like this photo much more without the splash.

To each is own, however.

Very nice image. I vote for the splash. It's unexpected (creates some tension), and sets this shot apart from the usual reflection photo. +Guy #2033

Hi,

I agree with your analysis, Guy. The splash really does set the photo apart from the usual reflection images. But, there's something that I just doesn't seem right with it there.

I can't put my finger on it.

Cheers,

Hi guys,

I prefer the picture also without the splash. Perhaps you should have moved a bit to the left, so the call sign of the boat would be more dominant.

Thank you for your comments. It's right Glenn, we all have different preferances. I really appreciate beeing given different approaches to a photo, but this particular photo I want as is. I saw the reflection, and thought it would make a great photo, but maybe a bit too static. So, I asked my boyfriend to throw in a stone, and was lucky to get this at first try. I took one more photo, with him throwing another stone, to get the rings(I have submitted that too). It's not manipulated in any way, just some colour enchantment and clen-up in PS.

Trine,

I'm with you on this one. The splash is ESSENTIAL to the impact of this image. Without it the composition would be unbalanced... all the visual weight would be on the right side. The splash adds visual tension and the surprise of a fleeting moment of time captured.
Have you seen Robert Farber's book "By the Sea"? Although he used very grainy Agfachrome 1000 for most of the images in this book, your style, and the "quiet light" of this image remind me of the images in his book.
You have a great eye! #7503
