Bayou Desiard After Hurricane Gustuv

Uploaded: September 06, 2008

Description

You don't have to comment. Just wanted to show you the bayou after the storm. All the beautiful reds, pinks and grees are gone. The bayou had over 24" rain one day and it rained all week day and night. The Storm did the bayou a lot of good. the water level is up very high and there is a nice current. The Bald Cypress Trees as you can see are starting their fall colors now. Bill

Bill Knaps September 06, 2008

Thank you Tiia, Jo Ann, Michelle F. Lynne, Jessica and Shannon. I was worried about the trees. Thank God he spared them. I too am happy it was not as bad a hurricane as they first thought it would be. The hurricane did not take the beauty, just the red Algae for this year. Don't know when it will return. May take two years. Thank you for your concern for my safety Shannon. I know the rest of you showed your concern for my safety earlier. Thank all of you for your nice comments. I appreciate you very much. Bill #6420771

Bill, Another beautiful photo, even if the red algae is gone, I love the yellow in the trees. Great Capture! Linda #6420919

Dianna Hauf September 06, 2008

Was it 'stirred up' so to speak, from the storm? Is that what took away the red algae? Kind of like 'airating' the waters? You STILL TAKE quite lovely 'bayou' shots Bill as this one shows! :) So glad you all were ok this time around. Hoping IKE won't come your way!!!! #6420939

Bill Knaps September 06, 2008

Thank you Susan, Linda and Dianna for your nice comments. I appreciate you very much. The water leavel came up very high in the bayou and the algae was just washed away or mixed with the fresh water as the current increrased in the bayou. I could not believe the strong current today. Usually there is no current visible to the eye. Bill #6421038

Seems strange not to see all the colors. How long before they grow back. Beautiful colors and lighting. #6421046

Very glad to see the bayou came through with just high water, Bill! That was a lot of rain to fall in such a short time. That`s about half the rain we get here all year. Hope that`s it for this year and many more. Excellent shot showing every things OK!!....Denny #6421337

Deb Koskovich September 07, 2008

I am so happy that the bayou did not sustain any lasting damage -- it looks like it survived in beautiful shape. I could see the difference right away from the way it usually looks in your images, but it is certainly no less beautiful. #6422519

Bill Knaps September 07, 2008

Thank you Avril, Joy and Deb. I appreciate you and your nice comments. Very peaceful looking Avril, but I would never go over ankle deep in these waters. Knee deep you cannot run and those Cypress trees put up what we call knees. It is roots that usually stick up above the serface. People cut them off to make lamps so we never see them now. Happy you think it did not loose any of it's beauty Deb. Bill #6422916

Hi Bill, if you can handle another comment on this one we're not supposed to comment on ; ) I'd like to add that you continue to amaze with your ability to show off new beauty in the bayou no matter what the season or weather. Here the dramatic colour may have washed away, but it's still beautiful and serene and for sure a Bill Knaps signature photograph! : ) -mm #6476794
