50mph Max

Description

How much faster than the 50mph limit does it look like we're going? In actual fact, we're well under the limit and rolling to a stop in traffic. Doesn't seem to matter to the camera though. Dramatic results were still there to take.

Kool shot, Chris!! Amazing what the camera picks up sometimes!! Original shot? Were u in a tunnel? I'm trying to figure out what is up above.. I like the colors, lines and wispiness! #201591

Yes, the shot is original. No digital processing other than a crop to a more interesting shape.

It isn't taken in a tunnel. It's from the infamous M25 - the motorway ring-road around London (Chris Rea's "Road To Hell" was written sat in traffic here). The road has dynamic speed limits that change when traffic queues begin to form. The current local limit is communicated to drivers via bright signs on gantries over the roadm and that's the blue/red bit you can see. It is night time, hence the blackness elsewhere. The yellow in the top-right is from the central road lighting.

The whispiness comes from the fact that the camera is handheld against the dash of the car. The car I was in was a Lotus Elise - a serious sports car with stiff jiggly suspension, hence the blur.

I'm glad you enjoyed the shot, Chris. #1123638
