Katherine, in answer to your post I shot this very close up with a short zoom Canon ef 28-70 not a macro at all but a solid versatile lens. I shot Fairy Flower (see my gallery) with Canon's compact macro not a true macro but good enough for me since I don't shoot really small bugs. If your serious about macro get the ef 100, you won't be disappointed.
