Never seen anything like this!! Great find Jane!! #4758738

Jane Summa September 08, 2007

Hi Laurence..there are many different kinds of slugs throughout the US. None of these in your neck of the woods?? :-) I'm used to seeing the slugs found in the northeast. They're usually gray/black. Thanks for dropping in. #4763658

These creatures are all over my garden, especially when it has been raining.
They have a huge appetite, can polish off quite an amount of lettuce,
veggies and flowers over night.
I am not their friend at all.

But the picture is great,in any case. Lol. #4778275

That monster is huge! Nothing like this in the state of Indiana... that I have ever seen. Super photo, love it! #4778307

Jane Summa September 11, 2007

Hi Christine..Hi Steven. You are correct, they are "monsters" and as Christine describes they can do a lot of damage. I did a search & found several articles on how to deal with these "creatures"... Thanks for stopping by :-)! #4779254

Hi Jane
Up here in British Columbia we call them banana slugs, up to eight inches long. If you pick one up and put it in your palm it feels cold. When you put it down the slim that is on your hand is nearly there for life! Nothing know to man is as slippery as slug slim. If you could slide a slug down the sharp edge of a razor blade it wouldn't cut it. I hear they have a very odd mating ritual. Great shot, nice color and detail, good eye.

Hi Shahn..You're right! I found some interesting facts about the different kinds of slugs out there. I didn't know about how tough they are, though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :-)! #4803283

Shahn Torontow September 17, 2007

Hi Jane
I knew I had a picture somewhere, when they are hungry they change color. As they eat their color comes back, very cool as far as bugs go.
Take care.
