I'm not sure if anybody's in the mood for funny this morning, Allan. I know I'm not. The orang is adorable though. #144278

I agree with you Carolyn Here's what I said onother page that "somehow" didn't get included here -

Now on a more serious note – there has been a lot of disappoint lately in BP decision to limit contest entries to 10 per month and not many of us are happy.

I’ve been entering a daily photo for almost four years and met a lot of close friends on this site which I have considered to be the best site on the web but I’m very disappointed about this decision. This punishes all the Bpers who have contributed to the continuity and commradery of this site.

There are “non-members” who don’t obey the rule of ‘one entry per day’, don’t have a Members Gallery; or a Deluxe Site; or take any of the courses offered and by the sheer weight of numbers are ruining this once-great site. Why should those of us who obey the rules and are loyal to the site have to pay a penalty for their blatant disregard for the rules. I’m beseeching any and all who agree with me on this to write to ‘Jim Miotke’ and voice their displeasure and disapproval of these devastating contest rule changes.

I believe that if “entry” into the contest were limited to BP members (those who have supported BP by following the rules or have Galleries (simple and inexpensive to do) or have Deluxe Sites or taken a course thru BP, the perceived problem of “too many entries” would be greatly eliminated and all Bpers would continue to benefit from the excellent nature of this site - Allan Whitehead

Thank you, Rob, from another page - Allan #629552

Kristen McKain July 03, 2004

I'll deffinitally write. I don't agree with it at all either. If some people are going to post more then they're supposed to daily they should be kicked off the website. Its not hard to read the rules first. #629555

Kristen McKain July 03, 2004

Adorable image By the way!! (sorry forgot all about putting that in whille I was writing the first time) #629556

Kathleen Clemons July 03, 2004

Fun image, Allan.
I agree that multiple entries per day are a problem, but I disagree with you on limiting the contest to people who have sites, galleries, and have taken classes. Just 2 years ago, I was a beginner here, and spent months just looking at the work and reading the comments before I dared to submit a photo of my own. After months of submitting, my first 2nd place finish won me my gallery. We all need to start somewhere, beginners should be welcomed and encouraged. If I'd had to have a gallery first, I'd never have started posting, and look what I'd have missed! #629562

Joy Brown July 03, 2004

Awesome shot, Allan! #629564

Shirley L. Carpenter July 03, 2004

Cute image Allan with great composition!! I have mixed feelings about the whole limit thing and agree with both Allan and Kathleen! So I will put my trust in Jim to do the right thing!! #629577

William C. Raco level-classic July 03, 2004

Allan, your comment presumes that only non members are the ones making multiple posts. I haven't researched the issue, but I'd imagine there are members that do the same.
Besides, I see no point in pitting people against each other.
This is a fine community, and as all fine communities, visitors and new members are all welcome and treated equally.
I think time would be better spent understanding the logistics of working with so many entries and methods of streamlining the process.
While I am not thrilled with the new restrictions, I do have to trust that Jim has looked at these options and did what he thought best.

Thank you so much everyone (Kristen, Colleen, Kathleen, Joy, and Shirley) for the great comments and responses which I appreciate. Kathleen, I do agree with you and my suggestion was just a starting point. However my remarks were more of a statement as to why I think there is aproblem here that should be addressed and not punish our members who are loyal and contributing to the site. It might seem to be drastic but limiting entries to 10 a month is not the answer. We have some non-member entrants who don't play by the rules who will be unable to post again after the first day, so maybe that's the good news - Allan #629590

Leanne M.E. Boyd July 03, 2004

Well Allan, something has to be done, about the multi entries, but to limit to paying members is also unfair. My income is such, that taking courses, and getting a gallery (if not for friends, I still would not have one), is unthinkable. What I do enjoy, is looking at the photos, and communicating with so many great people, without you guys, I would not be doing photo montages now.

I am not a good sleeper, so I normally am up by 4:00 in the morning, to post my daily entry, and do my critiquing - part of my daily constituion. I am going to miss that.

Now back to your photo. Cute shot, Allan - I love the expression on his face! #629607

Donna J. Taff July 03, 2004

Great and funny shot, Allan!!!! I have emailed Better photo 3 time's trying to make sence of these new rule's and still don't quite get it. She made it sound like we can only enter one catagory 10 time's per month but I wonder if she is just pacifying me to get me to leave her alone. #629668

Paul Michko July 03, 2004

Great shot, Allan. I have just gotten a Gallery because of the comaradery on this site, and I too am disappointed by the limit. I have made some nice friends here through the discussions and daily submissions. I will voice my opinion as well. If we all do then maybe we can get somewhere. #629681

Allan L. Whitehead July 03, 2004

Thank you everyone (Bill {cyberspace}, Leanne, Donna, and Paul) for the comments and input. Leanne I'm not suggesting that one has to all of those things to participate and also that all beginners should be forced to have a gallery either. The cost of gallery is about 5¢ a day and maybe having a grace period for beginners (3 months) could also work and couldn't be any more work than to track "10 entries" a month for our 800+ members. I'm just making suggestions to see if this can be resolved. I also respect and have faith in Jim, but I have sent 3 emails to him regarding this, so far, and (I know he's busy) haven't as yet received a reply from him. I just don't really want to see this fantastic site go up in smoke - Allan #629708

Robin L. Wehrman July 03, 2004

Hi Allan!! excellent shot on this cute guy, what a face. awesome! #629745

Jennifer Rennison July 03, 2004

As I am a fairly new member(5 months) I have come to enjoy visiting this site daily and looking at everyones images. I hope there will be a happy medium, because I too would hate to see this site 'go up in smoke.' Too bad that the site didn't recognize that a person had entered an image for the day and not allow them to upload another, that would be a nice solution!

Cute shot Allan...have a good weekend! #629762

Kathleen R. Struckle July 03, 2004

Great capture Allan!! There is something wrong with this whole contest thing. I know a gal with a deluxe site who won semi-finals. But felt that a lot of other good work was being missed. So she said she would keep her site and would not enter the contest and would have nothing to do with it. She did not enter again. Funny thing the next month she won semi-finals and did not enter the contest at all. She did not care about winning she just felt there was a lot of great work being missed. Well someone had to go into her website and labled her photo semi-finalist. She said no way should it have won semi-finals. She said the image was not that good. Plus the fact she had not entered. This is not what I call professional. I think they better solve some problems here. I love the site. I have mad many good friends and learned a lot. I hope they can resolve the contest situation. I am not one who looks to win. It would be great, but I feel that learning from other people is great. I can tell you many people I have spoken to feel there is a problem with the contest. Have a happy and safe holiday. #630254

Allan L. Whitehead July 03, 2004

Thank you so much, Kathleen, I admire your candor and appreciate the comments, I agree with you and your contact(s) about the contest as well. I've said on many occasions I don't go into the contest to win, just to get the feed back and commenys from others.Thanx again as I also hope this gets resolved to everyone's satisfaction - your dear friend, Allan #630255

Brenda W. LaFleur level-deluxe July 03, 2004

Love this image, Allan. How funny!

I don't really know what to think about the change in contest rules. I hate to see a limit but the number of posts each day is overwhelming. Hope it all shakes out and works well. This is a great site and I would hate to see this kind of dissention interfere with the commaradarie that has developed. #630278

Allan L. Whitehead July 04, 2004

Thank you very nuch, Brenda, I'm sure we all feel the same as you do. I hope that they can get this settled a well - your good friend, Allan

Thank you very much everyone for your comments and opinions. I think that my opinions, whether right or wrong, are still just my opinions and I think that I have said enough on the subject. I hope that this can be rectified, but onlt time and BP will make some of those decisions. I 've enjoyed my time here at BP and will continue to do so as long as possible - your good friend, Allan #630469

Gary O`Dell July 04, 2004

Very nice image Allan. I too am very dissapointed, but what is the answer..I see much more than just limited postings as the problem..Why did Jim expand the catagories...has anyone really taken a good long look at the Winners, are we being steered towards their (BP) preferences..I think we are..I no longer believe BP has our good intrests ( as artests ) at heart..Gary O #630679

Allan L. Whitehead July 04, 2004

Thnk you Gary, for the insight and comments. You are not alone in your assement of the entire scenario and I think that there a lot more people of our community are feeling the same. My question has been why were the rules changed without prior knowledge to our members. One reply that I received from BP was that the information was conatined in all of "their" newsletters over the last monthor so. However, I get all of their letters and it wasn't mentioned in them to my knowledge. Of all of the replys and emails that I have received from our BP family (50+ - to date) NO ONE has stated that they knew about the changes in advance which is and has been my main concern from the start of this scenario, which seems to becoming more of a fiasco than anything else. We will just have to stay tuned and see what transpires. Our loyalty to BP has been committed, undiminished, and undivided. However it doesn't seem to have been reciprocated by the powers that be at BP - your friend, Allan #630768

Kathleen Clemons July 04, 2004

Yikes! Calm down, boys! The 10 entry limit has been eliminated, read Jim's note on the Q and A. I think all of the hard work the BP crew has done to try and make things better for all of us needs to be appreciated! #630770

Karen Engelbreth July 04, 2004

Really a great and fun image, Allan! #630781

Allan L. Whitehead July 04, 2004

Thank you so much, Kathleen and Karen, for the great comments and words. Kathleen I've read the Q&A section, Jim's response, and have sent him a congratulatory, thankful reply to the responsible actions which he has taken. They were nothing less that what I expected from someone who as supportive and concerned person as he has always shown hinself to be. BP is and shall continue to be the best photography site on the web, as I and a lot of us have been saying for years. Happy 228th Birthday America - your good friend, Allan #630831

I absolutely love your image of the Oran Getang!! I started to read the "political" discussion (which raises important issues) I tuned out! You are the best!! Not only a great photographer but a great mind!! #636437

Thank you so much, I truly value your thoughts and comments. The politcal discussion was resolved satisfactually to all concerned. Thanx for your on going support - your, friend Allan #636462

Nice shot, Allan, and great sentiment.

WOW... I was out of town a couple of days and seem to have missed all the uproar. I never even heard about the 10 pix limit, glad it's gone. Personally, I don't enter the contest iwith any expectation of winning, it seems my photos lack whatever the judges are looking for. But the feedback from the BP comminuty, and the opportunity to see y'all's work has been wonderful, and I hope that doesn't go away. Just my 2 cents worth.

Larry

#637587

Allan L. Whitehead July 08, 2004

Thank you very much again, Larry. I think you'll find that a large portion of the BP family community also enter the contest for the feedback and seeing other people's artistic approach to things forms a larger part of this community. Don't get me wrong, the occasional win is very satisfying but most of us won't quit if we have a few months of dry spells. That is what makes this such a great place, the on-going support - Allan #637775

This is too funny Allan - maybe you could resubmit it in the "humor" category this month - for that matter, you have several funny animal shots that belong there!! Thanks for the smile (my 17 year old kitty passed away this week so I've been a little blue)!! #691828
