Luna Silk Moth

Uploaded: July 31, 2007

Description

f5.6, ISO 200, 1/250, Matthews, NC.
This is a resubmission of a previous image. I reworked the colors & the contrast a little.
This was the first time I'd ever seen one of these Moth's in person. This guy was about 4 inches across. He stopped in my front yard trying to stay dry in the rain & of course I was out in the rain shooting the flowers. :)

This is a great capture, Michelle. The greens are great, the clarity, light. #702970

I love Luna moths and personally have only seen 3 in my life time. They are such stunning creatures and your lucky to have captured one :) They only live for 7 days since they have no mouth to eat. (FYI) :) #4582369

It looks like there are tiny smiling face people on the wings. You were quick on the shutter. #4582553

Oh, I love this one, Michelle. That arching leaf naturally framing him is terrific. Clarity, details, color--all stunning. Have you ever read Girl of the Limberlost or Freckles by Gene Stratton-Porter? Old, old--maybe your grandma or great-grandma will remember them. This made me think of these books I loved when I was a child--wonder if you can still find copies at a library . . . #4583814

Thank you Nikki! No I have never read any of them but I bet they are wonderful. :)
I'll have to check it out! #4583822
