Wow, Jim! This shot is awe-inspiringly beautiful! What techniques did you use for this one? #857080

Marietjie,

I added the sky using a layer mask and the gradient tool.

dido !! Wow The sky looks incredible Jim !! I've heard of using the gradient tool but have never tried it. Do you teach this in your classes Jim? #5511139

Jim Zuckerman February 18, 2008

Hi Paola,

Thank you. This technique is described in my Photoshop: Creative Techniques course that I teach on-line for Betterphoto. I am also in the process of making a DVD that will describe several very creative uses for the gradient tool and many of the other Photoshop tools that other instructors typically overlook when they teach Photoshop. If you might be interested in getting this when it's available, sign up for my free newsletter on the home page of my website (jimzuckerman.com) and it will be announced in that.

Hi, Jim. I went to your website and your photos there are even more incredible than the ones i've seen so far (which is hard to believe)! I LOVED 10579 "Samburu warrior combined with a background from Amboseli National Park, Kenya". It's a masterpiece! I also noticed that you have courses on wildlife photography and on how to sell your pictures. Would I have to be near wildlife in order to take your course? It's a real passion of mine, because I come from South Africa and grew up in the bush, but at the moment I'm in Korea which doesn't have any wildlife. I would love to be able to do what you do and go everywhere to get beautiful shots and then market them. #5512918

Marietjie,

Thank you for your kind compliments. To take the wildlife course, you could use photos previously taken. Or -- and this may not appeal to you -- you can shoot small animals that you can gain access to. For example, last weekend I did a whole series of poison dart frogs (on my website they are in the category 'Lovable frogs'). Pet stores have a great many subjects to shoot, and private collectors have everything from snakes to frogs to ferrets.

For the Money course, you can submit any kind of pictures. For example, my stock agency just sold the attached picture for $265 which I did in Seoul when I was there. This image as sold about 10 times so far.

Wow, that's good money. Thanks for your time. I'd be really interessted in both those courses. #5512993

The work become an expression!
Expression of our Earth in it's beauty!
The calm tones on the land contrasting the energy of clouds in the sky!
