Glass Masterpiece

Uploaded: July 27, 2007

Description

f7.1, 1/60, ISO 400, 18 - 55 mm zoom, Belmont, NC.
This was taken at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens inside the Conservatory. This is the Stained glass dome ceiling inside the conservatory. It's 104 years old.
The ceiling is 25ft high from the base of the dome & nearly 50 ft wide.
There are 16 panels in the ceiling & over 2 million pieces of glass that make up the design. It took 25 glass craftsman 2 years to complete. There are 4 panels that represent the 4 gospels, one with an Eagle, one with a Lion, one with a Bull & one with an Angel. After the ceiling was constructed they welded it together as one piece & it took over 100 men to lift it into place with ropes & pulleys.
Resubmission.

This is not your fault cause you didn't build this obviously, but those dark parallel lines dead in the center of the photo need to go, they're annoying to the eye got such a perfect capture. Work your PS magic....She's gonna kick my butt! ha ha

LOL Rob, it's actually part of the structure bracing on the outside of the building. Suspension wires at the top of the dome. I didn't even notice them until you said something. :)
I'll see what I can do.
Thanks everyone!
