The Baby Coati

Uploaded: June 28, 2007

Description

When Marcelo & I were making our drive to the beach in Costa Rica, we came around a curve and there was something in the road. We thought it was a monkey. We pulled over and saw that it was a baby coati. We weren't sure if it was hurt, but we eventually figured out that it was a tiny baby that just was exhausted from calling out to it's mommy. A couple flies landed on the little baby before I picked it up and put it in the grass next to the road. Just as I was picking it up, the mom coati came from across the street! We quickly got back in the car so that we wouldn't scare the mom away. The baby wasn't scared of us at all, but that was b/c it didn't know any better yet. The rest of our trip, I kept referring to this little one as "The Baby." It was just so tiny & cute and I'm glad we saved it! This animal has a few names: Coati, Coatimundi, Pizote, and Quati. Quati is the Brazilian name.
