love this shot and I am buying this same camera how did u do this effect #4227480

ReD Ognita April 29, 2007

Thanks Gary,
This is 3 shots with 2EV's apart merged together then tonemapped and photoshopped to get the wanted effect.

The clouds and lights are real. Nothing was added. Timing is crucial as well.

Hope that helps man :) #4228387

yeah it did
can u give me any feed back on the 400d do you like it? #4230790

ReD Ognita April 30, 2007

The 400D is a capable camera but if given more money, I'll go a notch up.

One thing I notice is the camera under-exposes when shooting in semi auto. That's why I always shoot manual. They say it does so to prevent blown highlights. You can fix though. But I prefer manual. Also, it's kind of small. Get a bg-e3 for your pinkie =)

But other than that, it a good camera :) #4232428

thank you much yeah I only use manual when I take photos any way so that works out well. and yeah I will be getting one of them battery pack holders to they look better with them on there to.
thanks mate

This is great, ReD! I love the effects. I'm not sure what tonemapped means. Could you explain that? #4244286

ReD Ognita May 03, 2007

Thanks Susan :)
I am currently at work right now so I can't type much =) but basically tone mapping is a computer graphics technique used to approximate the appearance of high dynamic range image. Tone mapping addresses the problem of strong contrast reduction from the scene values (radiance) to the displayable range while preserving the image details and color appearance important to appreciate the original scene content.

Oh, check out photomatix Susan, to have a wider understanding of how it works and see some tonemapped images =)

Cheers!
