CONTEST FINALIST.
Close up of a croc... in the Barcelona Zoo. (I would never get that close if he wouldn't be behind glass!!)

I was wondering about that, Jan.

However, I would like to see this photo taken from a slightly lower perspective. When shooting animals shots, it is so important to be at their eye level.

I just wanted to note that when I say lower perspective on this shot, I mean more of a straight on angle. I get the feeling that I am looking down at the croc.

As I mentioned, the croc was behind glass and if I would have taken the shot from eye level, the water surface might have interfered. However, it is a good tip, and as I planned to go back to the zoo soon (I live in Barcelona), I will follow your hint.

Hi, Jan:

You're absolutely right about the water surface. It is such a tricky thing to achieve. Something, that I've read for shots such as this is that many photographers actually lay the camera in their hand and have their hand touch the surface of the water. Now, don't go doing this right next to crocs. I am sure you like your hands more than taking photos. :) It's also hard to do this when the animal is behind glass.

Anyway, very tricky and the shot is good nonetheless, especially considering the conditions that you note.

Cheers,
Glenn
