The Big Blue

Uploaded: March 17, 2004

Description

This is a Blue Morpho Butterfly, taken at the Smithsonian's "Nature's Jewels" exhibit last year. While it resembles the Owl Butterfly, it is not the same butterfly. What makes it outstanding is that, when it flies or its wings are open, it reveals astounding irresdescent blue wings. I have yet to see a photograph that even comes close to its true color (perhaps there ISN'T a true color since its color shifts with movement). It is beautiful--wings open OR closed.
